Overview

RL@C is a human-centered and transformational leadership development program designed to foster inclusive, equitable work and learning environments.

Relational Leadership @ Carolina is an interprofessional, cross-generational program of the UNC-CH Office of Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPEP) that teaches participants how to fully realize the breadth of their human interactions — with students, patients, colleagues, or decision makers— to achieve true connection, common vision, and interdependent action. The Office of IPEP chose the Relational Leadership Institute as its foundational program because successful interprofessional practice requires effective leadership skills, regardless of role or title, to produce high-functioning teams.

Relational Leadership is a framework that can be used to impact individuals, teams, and systems by teaching people to:

About Us

RL@C is funded by registration fees from participants in our workshops and Relational Leadership Institutes.

The excitement around RL@C is spreading into UNC healthcare and beyond! Frequent requests for workshops and consultations continuously create opportunities to teach interprofessional leadership skills across the continuum of health professionals’ training.

Examples of past requests for RL@C training include:

    • Student workshops
    • Undergraduate courses
    • Established leadership development programs such as ACCLAIM, UNC’s Clinical Leadership Program and the Nursing Leadership Fellowship Program
    • Health professional schools
    • UNC Health Leadership
    • External groups such as the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials multi-state collaboration

Cost

In our efforts to make Relational Leadership programming accessible to everyone in the UNC community, Relational Leadership @ Carolina will offer 10 seats in our in-person Spring 2024 Relational Leadership Institute and 10 seats in our in-person Fall 2024 Relational Leadership Institute cohort for $1500 per seat to UNC community members whose sponsoring units are unable to support the regular registration fee of $2750.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Josh Hinson (QHinson@email.unc.edu) with the following:

  • A document from your supervisor confirming that you will be able to attend all four dates, and that your time will be protected during those dates so that you can attend the whole session (i.e., reasonable assurance that you will not be called away during any portion of the session for clinical, teaching, or other duties).
  • A brief statement of your interest in attending a Relational Leadership Institute: How do you hope that the Relational Leadership Institute will contribute to your professional development? What opportunities to implement relational practices do you anticipate having in your current work teams?

Furthermore, we will offer all seats in our Summer 2024 Relational Leadership Institute on Zoom for $750 per participant.
